In 2007 Canadian criminologist Gary Mauser and I published an article on int’l murder rates which compared the U.S. and Europe. Don B. Kates & Gary Mauser, “Would Banning Firearms Reduce Murder and Suicide: A Review of International Evidence,” 30 Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy 651-694 (2007).

Our conclusions were: 1) The murder and suicide rates of European nations that ban guns are three times higher than those of European nations that allow guns; 2) many western European nations have very low murder rates — though the western European nations that allow guns have much lower murder rates less; and 3) Russia and other formerly Soviet controlled nations that ban handguns have murder rates 3-4 times higher than the U.S.

Below you will find a listing of the murder rates of other nations that ban guns — and whose murder rates are MUCH higher than the U.S., often more than ten times higher.
