Safety, obviously, should be your first concern. In fact, if you leave a loaded firearm where a child obtains and improperly uses it, you may be fined or sent to prison. It is a defense to the crime of "criminal storage of a firearm" under Penal Code Section 12035 if the firearm is kept in a "locked container" (see "Transporting" section), or is equipped with a locking device. Parents should educate their children about firearms and use a locking gun safe, a trigger lock, and/or other safety devices to help avoid accidents. |
