UPDATE: PROPOSED GUN CONTROL IN OAKLAND PDF Print E-mail
Written by C D Michel

On Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at 6:00p.m., the Oakland City Council will be conducting a second reading of a package of gun control ordinances being pushed by the Legal Community Against Violence ("LCAV"), which is a rabidly anti-gun rights group of lawyers from San Francisco.

Attorneys representing the NRA already submitted a letter in opposition to the proposed ordinances prior to the first reading of the proposed ordinances (which is available to read below). The Oakland City Council was not deterred by the letter that clearly demonstrated the illegality of the proposed ordinances, and continues to press for adoption of these draconian ordinances. These ordinances make it impossible for a firearm or ammunition vendor to operate profitably in the City of Oakland, and turn gun-owners into criminals.

LCAV must be stopped! If not, it will continue spreading these unlawful, liberty-stealing laws in more cities. You can help. Please, if you are able, attend the meeting, get a speaker card and speak out against this attack on liberty. There is a group of people organizing to attend the meeting here. If you are not able to attend, please at least visit the Cal-NRA website, just scroll down to the bottom and utilize the "ONE-CLICK" feature to send e-mails to all the members of the Oakland City Council. Please be respectful but firm in your comments. The more people that voice their outrage, the more difficult it is for them to ignore us.

For those who can attend, the City Council meeting will be held at:

1 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza
Oakland, CA 94612
Between 14th & 15th Streets at Clay Street
